Official Request: Attend 12/16 City Council Meeting
The PRNC Safety Committee is asking Neighborhood Council members to attend tomorrow night’s Richmond City Council meeting (Tuesday, 12/16/2003). Your presence is needed to voice opposition to the proposed closure, on a rotating basis, of the City’s fire stations. You may recall that the original proposal was to permanently close Station 61, the fire station in Point Richmond and the ONLY city fire station retrofitted to increase survivability during an earthquake. But, keeping station 61 open and rotating the closure among all of the City’s fire stations leaves none of us as safe as we are today.
Council will meet in the Civic Auditorium behind City Hall on Barrett Avenue. The meeting begins at 7:00 pm but those who wish to address Council on this or any other issue will want to be there well before 7 so that they can sign up to speak.
Councilman Butt tells us that the Firehouse issue will be item M-2 “Discussion of status of proposed service cuts.”
Finally, this meeting is likely to be very well attended. The other issue of concern on the agenda tomorrow evening is the “Fence” issue about which you may have heard. Come early to get a seat, to sign up to speak and bring something to read.
We hope to see you there.
Don Woodrow, President PRNC
